An Overview

Literally.

After a much needed and very restful night's sleep, our neighborhood mosque provided a timely 4:30AM wake-up call for us. We were up and ready to go for one of our anticipated highlights of the trip - a hot air balloon trip over Cappadocia.

A van took us out to the balloon launching area where we watched as the balloon was filled with hot air from propane burners. About 20 of us climbed in the basket as the pilot explained the three rules to us - the first being a ban on jumping out. He also confessed that it was his first time flying a balloon ... that day.

As the pilot, he could control our height and the way the basket was facing, but that was it. He didn't need any requests for the direction to go. Our hour flight was spectacular. Suffice it to say that there are many more pictures than the ones I've included here. The landing was very gentle and was followed by a Champagne celebration.
