John, my colleague and co-researcher, had rented a car (he's a smart guy). So, we headed out for a little drive. This is a picture from after the drive was over. I just wanted to show that John survived my "help" as a passenger.
This needs some explanation. These cats live just outside a little chocolate shoppe, up in the mountains. Clearly the elevation, and perhaps the chocolate sampling, have tired them out for the day. Both cats were curled up and sleeping in a planter.
This chapel is full of gold ornaments, including an immense front section that seems like it's all gold. The famous icon of the Virgin Mary is in this chapel. It is covered by a silver revetment because no one is supposed to look at it. The legend is that it has miraculous powers. Picture-taking was not permitted inside the buildings.
The Troodos Mountains cover much of western Cyprus. They are home to many monasteries. One of the most famous is Kykkos. Here are some pictures of our drive and visit.
