I teach every other weekend. The conference fell on a teaching weekend. What to do. In two of the classes, a normally have students give presentations for the fifth class, which was the one on the conference weekend. No problem with that, I'll just watch their presentations remotely. In the third class, I scheduled two virtual guests and four actual guests to talk about their survey research work. I Skyped into all three class sessions and contributed to the class discussion and watched the presentations. My connection dropped a couple times, but it was quickly re-established. My part in these specific classes isn't that critical, so not being there in person didn't affect the classes that much.
However, when it is daytime in San Francisco, it is night time in Paphos and vice versa. Now, that's a problem, but only if one needs to sleep. I essentially stayed awake for 48 hours between attending conference sessions and Skyping in to the classes. Oh, and Friday night, before my USF class started, they hosted a traditional Cypriot/Greek evening for us. By Sunday, I was very tired, but I hadn't seen much of Paphos. So,
