So, after the first morning session, an attendee asked me where I was from. I said San Francisco. I asked him where he was from, and he said Ohio. I asked where, and he paused and said Dayton. I said that I grew up in Dayton. He asked where I went to high school. I said West Carrollton. He asked when I graduated, I said 1976. then, he looked closer at me and said "Ben? I'm Jeff. You played bassoon and I played trumpet in the band. You went into the Army." Thirty-eight years have passed and I look much different - no long hair or thick glasses, but we remembered each other and spent hours reminiscing. He now teaches music and serves as a learning technologist at Bathspa University in Bath, England. He taught in the Midwest after earning his PhD at UW Madison. Due to the US public school de-emphasis of the arts, music educators need to look elsewhere for jobs. He and his family are quite happy in Bath.
